Privacy policy
Last updated: 24 October 2026
The short version
- We only collect your email address if you subscribe to the daily dad joke, and we only use it to send you that.
- We never sell your email address.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time.
- We use Google Analytics only if you say yes. It uses cookies. You can change your mind at any time.
1. Who we are
mydadsaid.com (“Dad Said…”, “we”, “us”) is a website of dad jokes, Father's Day messages and classic dad sayings. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions? Email hello@mydadsaid.com.
2. What we collect and why
- Your email address, if you subscribe. We also record that you agreed to receive our emails, and when and how you did. We use this to send you a confirmation email and then the daily dad joke. We rely on your consent.
- Jokes and messages you send us. If you send us a joke through the submission form or by email, we receive what you write, the category you choose and your first name if you give it. We use it to review submissions and reply to you. We'll only credit you by name if you ask us to.
- Technical information. When you visit, our hosting provider handles your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, so the site loads and stays secure. We don't use this to identify you.
- Usage information, if you accept analytics. If you say yes to our analytics banner, Google Analytics records which pages you view, which jokes you give a Groan to, your device and browser type, and your approximate location. We use this to see which jokes people enjoy and to improve the site. We rely on your consent.
- What we don't collect. There are no accounts or logins on this site, and we don't ask for payment details.
3. Who we share it with
We use a few trusted services to run the site. They handle your information on our behalf or, in some cases, under their own policies:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and provides our domain name, security and content delivery.
- Brevo stores our email list and sends our emails, including your confirmation email. It acts on our instructions. Read Brevo's privacy policy.
- Web3Forms runs our joke submission form. It receives what you type into that form and emails it to us. It keeps submissions for a limited time and may run spam checks that involve your IP address. See web3forms.com for its privacy policy.
- Google Fonts supplies the fonts on this site. To show them, your browser requests them from Google, which receives your IP address.
- Amazon (affiliate links). Some links, such as our gift ideas, go to Amazon. If you click and buy, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. To send you to your own Amazon store, the page uses your browser's time zone and language setting. This happens in your browser, and we don't receive that information. Once you leave our site, Amazon's own privacy policy applies.
- Google Analytics (only if you accept). If you say yes to our analytics banner, Google receives your usage information and your IP address, and sets cookies in your browser. Google Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months. Read Google's privacy policy.
- Advertising (if and when we add it). We may show ads, for example through Google AdSense. These services may use cookies or similar technologies. Where the law requires it, we'll ask for your consent first, and we'll update this page.
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share your email address with anyone except the services listed above.
4. Cookies and browser storage
This site doesn't set its own cookies. Our hosting provider may use essential cookies for security. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets cookies, usually named _ga and _ga_ followed by a code, to tell visitors apart. They last up to two years unless you clear them. If we add ads, their providers may set cookies too.
The Groan buttons and your analytics choice are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device, along with a list of the jokes you have groaned at.
When you give a joke a Groan for the first time, we add one to that joke's public count. This sends only the joke's ID to our server, with no name, account or cookie, and we don't store your IP address with it. If you have accepted analytics, the Groan is also recorded in Google Analytics.
You can control cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on. You can also opt out of personalised advertising at Google's ad settings, optout.aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.com (UK and EU).
5. How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After that, we keep only a minimal record that you opted out, so we don't email you again by mistake. We keep messages you send us for as long as we need them to review and reply.
6. Where your information goes
Our service providers may process information in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. Where the law requires it, they use recognised safeguards for those transfers.
7. Your rights
If you're in the UK or the EU, you can ask us to give you a copy of your personal information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or move it to another service. You can withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us. You can also complain to your data protection regulator, which in the UK is the Information Commissioner's Office.
If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you may have the right to know what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information. We don't sell your personal information. To make a request, email us at hello@mydadsaid.com. We'll reply within the time the law allows.
8. Children
Our email list and joke submissions are for people aged 16 and over. The jokes on this site are family-friendly, but we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we'll delete them.
9. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, and our site and our providers use encrypted (https) connections. No system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, such as adding ads, we'll update this page before it takes effect.
11. Contact us
